Some of West Seattle’s best attractions include its saltwater beach parks that line the areas western-facing shores along Elliott Bay and Puget Sound. Alki Beach and Lincoln Park are the most popular of West Seattle’s many beach parks. Seeing as West Seattle is across the water from what is today downtown Seattle, the Washington State Ferries System operates a number of ships on a regular schedule, operating into and out of the local Fauntleroy harbor. The operation has direct service to Vashon Island, Southworth, Duwamish Head, and downtown Seattle. Education is one of the community’s greatest priorities in the area. West Seattle is home to a diverse range of schools that serve youth from pre-K through college. The South Seattle Community College, West Seattle High School, Chief Sealth High School, Seattle Lutheran High School, Gatewood Elementary School, Madison Middle School, and Denny Middle School comprise the core of grade nine through post-secondary education. Most residents live within a mile or so of an elementary school. Most properties are even within walking distance of Roxhill Elementary School, Alki Elementary School, Lafayette Elementary School, Highland Park Elementary School, Sanislo Elementary School, Pathfinder Elementary School, Holy Family School Seattle, Holy Rosary West Seattle, Schmitz Park Elementary School, and Our Lady of Guadalupe.
